Savarese BJJ purplebelts take bronze at IBJJF NY Open

Savarese BJJ purplebelts take bronze at IBJJF NY Open

2 Savarese BJJ purplebelts take bronze at IBJJF NY Open, one of the toughest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments on the East Coast each year. Purplebelts Sean Yadimarco and Caitlin McManus, members of the Savarese BJJ Academy Competition team, each took 3rd in their divisions. Yadimarco won his division at bluebelt at this tournament last year and this was his first time competing at this belt color. He has been very active on the East Coast BJJ scene for the last couple of years, winning tournaments all over.

The Ladies get involved too

McManus, one of the top female competitors on the team, has also been very active on the tourn scene. This was the first time she medaled at the NY Open. Also competing was Ivette Ponte, cpmpeting in her 1st NY Open as well. Ponte won her first match but lost by triangle choke in her second to the eventual champion. It was good experience for her and we expect her to come back stronger in some upcoming tournaments.

What’s next for the team?

The Savarese BJJ team will be bringing over 20 competitors at the Big Apple Open on May 19th at Martin Luther King HS in NYC. Good luck to everyone!
