Lyndhurst Kids Martial Arts School wins team championship!

Savarese BJJ Academy did it again! The Lyndhurst Kids Martial arts School wins the team championship at the New Jersey Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (NJBJJF) tounament for the 3rd time! Professor Chris Savarese, the owner and head instructor of the school announced on his Facebook Page “I didn’t get a chance to post the last 2 days but I wanted to send a shout out and thanks to my Savarese BJJ team for such a great day yesterday. I got home from the NJBJJF tournament and took a moment to be happy and proud of the team I have built over the years w the help of many and the tight bond that we share. Every single person brings something to make us who we are. Many teams claim they are family but our group, from the oldest to the youngest, is tight. We train, help, fight, love and have each other’s backs through thick and thin. Our showing yesterday was tremendous, w/ our kids winning the team title and our adults taking the 3rd place trophy w only 8 competitors, 3 of whom were 16 yrs old. Half of the adults who competed won GOLD medals. I am super proud of our teens, who all fought up in the adult divisions. Testing yourself is what BJJ is all about, they make me proud beyond belief. Many of my Masters tested themselves in the Absolute as well against guys much younger.. The NJBJJF ran a very good tournament and was well reffed. Yesterday was the first time in all my years of BJJ that I didn’t yell at a ref once. And the rest of the team who came out to support everyone showed how tight our team isCongrats to all the kids on the competition team. The Difference Between Helio & Rickson Gracie’s Style of Jiu-Jitsu

Kron Gracie speaks about difference between Helio and Rickson Gracie

Here is a great video where Kron Gracie speaks about difference between Helio and Rickson Gracie. Kron Gracie is the son of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend, Rickson Gracie, and a top contestant in the sport’s black belt division. He has won various medals in the World Jiu Jitsu Championship and an Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC title) in 2013. A fierce competitor since his early teenage years, Kron Gracie made a name for himself in the grappling scene at the lower belt divisions through an incredible run in some of the sport’s most important tournaments, where he managed to establish a 51 straight submission win streak. 51 staight matches! think about that for a second. Kron Gracie is also known by his “basic†jiu jitsu style and for his exciting submission orientated grappling game. Kron has since moved on to fight in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).  In 2010, Kron was put on the Mixed Martial Arts-game EA Sports MMA as a playable character, along with cousin Roger Gracie. In 2014, Kron announced his intention to pursue an MMA career. He made his mixed martial arts debut on December 23, 2014, vs fellow MMA debutant Hyung Soo-Kim at Real Fighting Championship: Real 1.[12] Gracie won the fight via armbar, sixty-five seconds into the first round. Kron fought on December 31, 2015 at Rizin Fighting Federation World Tournament. He faced Asen Yamamoto and won the fight via submission in the first round.

Wise words from Saulo Ribeiro

Here are some wise words from Saulo Ribeiro. Ribeiro is one of the most successful competitors and jiujitsu instructors. He is now more devoted to passing his knowledge onto his students in his academy called University of jiujitsu and his online learning website Jiu-Jitsu Library , but he hasn’t stopped completely, as he now dominates the world masters.

During the Grapplers Escape , a Jiu-Jitsu cruise around the Caribbean, Saulo shared his thoughts with our friends at Pasando Guardia about being a student for life:

“If you are doing jiu-jitsu and are a one stripe white belt, then you are a†master “and can already teach some jiujitsu to someone from your family or friends. Jiu-Jitsu is designed to make you quit and not go any further. Compare a photo of when you started and today, you’re not the same, because you have polished the diamond that is inside of you. BJJ cleans you inside out; Your insecurities, fears, desires, rage etc .. All you’ll have to deal with personally. You do not learn movements but concepts. When you fight someone, you do not fight that person but you fight against their technique against their intentions â€

“Tapping is to learn how not to lose, There are two ways of tapping: because of joint manipulation and because of a choke. Joint locks are painful. If your ego is bigger than that, it will hurt. A choke is something where you’re dealing with someone who is taking your life, so when you strangle you owe your life to your partner.

If you are doing jiujitsu, you are special. No matter if you win medals, the important thing is to keep going. If you trained two years and you gave up… Shame on you. No matter how you started, it is important that you go you all the way. You have to get your get to the black belt. It may take 6 or 20 years, but enjoy the ride. I did not enjoy my white belt. I do not remember much of it as I was trying to get to blue.

Some say .. “I’m just a white belt ..†Do not say it like that, say it with pride! If you are white belt well, you took a decision to start jiu-jitsu, and many people are scared to make that first step. If you are white belt with a couple of degrees, the you can defend yourself against 90% of people out there. Go your way, and never stop learning.

Savarese BJJ Academy kids program

The Savarese BJJ Academy, located at 40 Park Ave is Lyndhurst, is one of the top kids jiu-jitsu programs in the state of NJ. Many other BJJ schools come to them to help with their programs. The Academy won the award for 2014 top school award and constantly gets rave reviews from parents. The main goal at Savarese Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is to boost the self-esteem of it’s students. This overarching goal is achieved through recognition and rewarding our students. These acknowledgements are not only based on success but also on the effort put forth. Kids bjj is beneficial to children in many ways. Children who participate in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes quickly increase their physical fitness level. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu involves both large and small muscle groups in the body. Improvement of physical well being is not the only goal. It also aims to develop life-improvement skills as well as building the child’s character in a positive way. Respecting authority is quite important in the teaching to us. For many children learning to respect authority can be a difficult lesson to learn. At Savarese Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy learning to respect authority is among our top priorities. Our program CAN and WILL help your child increase their confidence, self-esteem, discipline, while teaching them life skills that will last them a lifetime. In our time-proven program, your child will be able to progress at their very own pace. We understand that everyone learns differently. No matter if your child can only train once a week or everyday we have the program that will fit your needs.

Savarese Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu develops many traits in your child. These traits include:

  • Increased self esteem
  • Greater Self Discipline
  • Increased ability to Focus and Concentrate
  • Elevated Self Confidence
  • Overall Improvement in Attitude
  • Improved Physical Fitness Level
  • Development of Leadership Skills
  • Greater Respect for themselves and others
  • Increased Patience
  • Greater work Ethic
  • Better Understanding of How to Channel Aggression

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not meant to teach children how to fight. Children are taught to work through confrontation on an intellectual basis first and focuses on children learning to avoid physical confrontation and having the ability to defend if attacked. Congrats over 40 BJJ practitioner Junior Pastrana!

Congrats over 40 BJJ practitioner Junior Pastrana! on receiving the 2nd Stripe on his bluebelt from Professor Chris Savarese last night. Junior didn’t start training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu until he was over 40 years of age, proving that anyone who doesn’t make excuses about their age can accomplish anything they set out to accomplish. The art of jiu-jitsu is for everyone. Keep up the great work Jr!

You are never too old

You are never too old totake up martial arts. I always try to tell this to friends of mine over 40 who tell me “I’d love to try BJJ or Martial Arts but I’m too old.†Drives me crazy. As General George S. Patton once said “A lot of people die at 40, but they are not buried until 30 years later.†Don’t be one of those people!! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO DO!!!  There are so many reasons to start BJJ but one I can tell you right away is I have never seen a BJJ practitioner who has reached the rank of purplebelt not have their lives affected directly by practicing jiu-jitsu. There so many ways that you can train that are beneficial to you. you can focus on the Self Defense side of  BJJ if you are limited by injuries. You are not just training your body but your mind as well. BJJ is a lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle that will give you life skills, promote better health and fitness and weight loss. At the Savarese BJJ Academy in Lyndhurst NJ, we put you through a 16 week course of just teaching you the basics of BJJ in a small class setting. It is like you hired your own personal trainer for BJJ. If you are interested in trying  BJJ, call us at 201 933-5134 for a free class or email us at [email protected]. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!!

The Starfish Story

The Starfish Story

Once upon a time, there was a man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a child, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The child was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?â€

The child paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.â€

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?†asked the somewhat startled man.

To this, the child replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.â€

Upon hearing this, the man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!â€

At this, the child bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “I made a difference for that one.â€

Jim Rohn, The Ant Philosophy

Jim Rohn The Ant Philosophy

Over the years I’ve been teaching children about a simple but powerful concept – the ant philosophy. I think everybody should study ants.

They have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: ants never quit. That’s a good philosophy. If they’re headed somewhere and you try to stop them; they’ll look for another way.

They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under, and they’ll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you’re supposed to go.

Second, ants think winter all summer. That’s an important perspective. You can’t be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer.

An ancient story says, “Don’t build your house on the sand in the summer.” Why do we need that advice? Because it is important to be realistic. In the summer, you’ve got to think storm. You’ve got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead.

The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, “This won’t last long; we’ll soon be out of here.” And the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can’t wait to get out.

And here’s the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, the “all-you-possibly-can” philosophy.

Wow, what a great seminar to attend – the ant seminar. Never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can.

Jim Rohn was a leading author, speaker and business lecturer. He is the author of 7 Strategies for Wealth & Happiness: Power Ideas from America’s Foremost Business Philosopher, among other fantastic books and audio programs.

Rafael Lovato Jr. wins by choke in Legacy Fighting Championship

Rafael Lovato Jr. wins by choke in Legacy Fighting Championship over his opponent Kevin Holland at 1:38 of round 1 saturday night. Lovato controlled the distance and landed a takedown very quickly to give him the fight in his arena. Rafael is the most dedicated, most disciplined and one of the best examples of a martial artist I know. So proud of you brother! OSS.

About Lovato Jr

At just 21 years of age, Rafael Lovato Jr became the youngest American to receive a black belt in BJJ at that time. In receiving his black belt, Rafael also helped accomplish another feat, as he and his father became the first American father and son black belts. Rafael has had many accomplishments in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, becoming the most decorated American BJJ competitor ever. In 2007, Rafael achieved the incredible feat of winning the four most prestigious events in BJJ all in a row. First, he became the first American to win the Brazilian National Championships (Brasileiro) at blackbelt and the 2nd American, after BJ Penn of UFC fame, to win the World Championships as a BlackBelt. Rafael earned the prestigious BJJ competitor of the year award for 2007 for these accomplishments. Rafael is also one of the only American’s to ever be featured on the cover of the famous Gracie Magazine and was honored for his accomplishments when he was inducted into the prestigious Grapplers Quest Hall of Fame. If you live in NJ and would like to train with Lovato’s team, Call Professor Chris Savarese, who runs his association on the East Coast, at 201 933-5134 or email [email protected] for a free intro lesson.
