Mamba mondays. Here is some great advice from the late Kobe Bryant
Congrats to Anthony Del Guercio, the Savarese Jiu-Jitsu instructor Wins at Masters World BJJ Championship
Savarese Jiu Jitsu Lyndhurst has big weekend coming off a successful last weekend as well. What an amazing weekend for Savarese BJJ. We have been really active last couple of weeks but this weekend was a great one. Steve McNicholas stared the weekend off at the ADCC trials w one of the fastest submissions of the tournament w a 15 seconds submission victory. Then Kyla Zeppetelli made her college wrestling debut w a pin. Then was on the the NBJJF, one of their biggest to date. Our kids started the tourn w 12 students competing and capturing 10 silvers and 2 bronzes. The golds eluded us but sometimes that’s good, shows us what we need to work on. Then our adult comp team took the mats. We had 13 people competing and we took home 7 Golds and 4 silvers. Just an amazing performance by everyone. I am so proud of everyone not just for their success, but because they faced a fear and weren’t scared to fail. See everyone Monday.
Savarese BJJ’s Zeppetelli starts season at NJCU today! Best of luck to our Kayla Zeppetelli who opens her season today w NJCU. ” Kayla Zeppetelli (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) is a freshmen to watch this year as well,” said head coach Elena Pirozhkova. Pirozhkova is a World Champion and two-time U.S. Olympian . “We are very exited to see how she does against collegiate competition.” Zeppetelli joins the Gothic Knights from Ridgefield Park High School where she also took home a N.J. State Championship as a senior at 151 pounds. As a junior, she fell two wins short of qualifying for nationals due to injury
Savarese BJJ’s Leo Alves won his Men Of War superfight over Vinnie Antonazzi of Imapct BJJ by armbar in 1 minute 57 seconds saturday night. Alves, once a top prospect in the US, had not competed in over 2 years due to injuries and health issues. It was a huge win in his return. A teammate, Dan Czarnecki, competed earlier and lost a split decision to Ryan Kerbel from . Their instructor, Professor Chris Savarese, had this to say “Overall, it was a decent night at Men Of War. We went 1-1 on the night. Dan Czarnecki started us off and had a typical Dan match. He’s our Petr Yan. Start slow and come on strong at end. Match ended w Dan in a good position but his opponent did enough early to win close decision. Then it was time for Leo Alves, who is coming back after 3 years off w some injuries and what a comeback it was. He won by armbar in dominant fashion in under 2 minutes against a really tough opponent. Happy w the night, back to the lab Monday.”
Lyndhurst Jiu-Jitsu kids program remains top notch! The Savarese Jiu-Jitsu Academy on park ave has been changing the lives in the Lyndhurst and surrounding areas for over 15 years. In this picture, Leo Alves, a North Arlington resident who started in our program as a boy at 8 years old, helps 12 year old Matteo Mendez. Leo was a multiple time kids jiu-jitsu tournament champion, winning tournaments up and down NJ and NY for years. He then went on to become an instructor at Savarese BJJ and an adult champion as well. He was a Fight To Win (www.fight2winbjj.com) and NJBJJF (www.njbjjf.com)adult champion at just 16 years old. Here, things come full circle. There was a time when Leo and Mateo were in the Kids Program together. In between kids class and Fundamentals here they are drilling together again and Leo was giving Mateo some pointers on his guard. I absolutely love this Academy/Family/Team.
The greatest compliments we could ever receive are the kind words you share with others.
