Savarese Wrestling Class

Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts Training (MMA) has gained in popularity. Many people are under the impression that they either need to take wrestling classes or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. While training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu or MMA, it is highly recommended that also you add wrestling classes to your training routine. A wrestling class, should focus on components that are beneficial to anyone who is training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The main reason to concentrate on wrestling while in training in BJJ is to learn the ability to take it to the mat. Many who train in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lack the ability to bring the fight/match to the mat. In concentrating on various wrestling techniques in conjunction with BJJ, your abilities and victories will increase. BJJ has 4 main steps that need to be followed in order to assure a victory:

  1. Decrease the distance between you and your opponent.
  2. Use various methods to takedown your opponent.
  3. Position yourself in a position of dominance over your opponent.
  4. Either submit or gain submission from your opponent.

Savarese wrestling classes focus on such skills as:

  • The Ankle Pick: A wrestler grabs the ankle of their opponent with their opposite hand and lifts the leg towards the opponents waist.
  • The Single-Leg Takedown: A wrestler reaches for one of the opponents legs and pulls it toward their upper torso.
  • The Double Leg Takedown: A wrestler reached for both of the opponents legs and pulls them toward their chest. The legs must be grabbed at the same time.
  • Leg Sweep: A wrestler uses their own leg to sweep their opponents legs causing them to fall to the ground.
  • The Lock Double: Studies have shown that this is the most effective takedown against the fence in a MMA fight by a large margin.

In learning to employ these and other takedown methods your success rate will increase. Different Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools offer wrestling classes in New Jersey. Each of these takedown methods has many variations. These variations offer an advantage in matches. In order to properly practice and master these techniques it is important for you to find the New Jersey wrestling class closest to your home. Combining wrestling and BJJ is necessary in order build the skills needed to win.
