Jiu Jitsu world Champions stop by Savarese BJJ Lyndhurst

2 Jiu Jitsu world Champions stopped by Savarese BJJ Lyndhurst to train today. They were on their way to the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Submission Wrestling World Championship. World Champions Rafael Lovato Jr and his student Justin Rader were on their way to England for the ADCC 2011 and made a stop in NJ to train with Professor Chris Savarese. Rather than rest, they decided to get a last training session in at Savarese’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Lyndhurst, NJ. Lovato had this to say “ I stopped in NJ on my way to England to see my East coast brother Chris Savarese to take us to his mats. We had a great technical session, tightened some things up and I had a blast hanging with the funniest guy I know. I can’t get enough of his stories and the accent to go with it is priceless! Thanks Sav!â€

Happy 5 yr Anniversary Savarese BJJ Academy Lyndhurst

Hello all,
Today is the 5 yr Anniversary of the Savarese BJJ Academy. I just wanted to take a couple of paragraphs to explain why this is such an important day for the Academy and for me personally and I wanted to thank some people who had an important role in its success. The 5 yr Anniversary is much more important to me than the 1 yr because today I feel like I am living the dream I dreamed about as a bluebelt, running a SUCCESSFUL BJJ Academy, one that I know will be making a difference in the lives of the people in the room and in our community for years and generations to come.  As a white and blue belt, doing something like this seemed like a pipe dream, a goal that seemed almost unattainable. After my severe knee injury, when doctors told me that my athletic days were over and even my family was urging me to give up BJJ so I could walk again w/out pain, the dream seemed completely out of reach. Thank you to those who stuck by me and helped me during that time, one of them who even wound up becoming one of my students. The first step in my dream coming true was the grand opening and the second part is today. First, I would like to thank all my students whose role plays an important part in the success of our Academy. I am so proud of the way everyone treats each other and I can honestly say the atmosphere in our Academy is what I am most proud of. No drama, no rivalries,  just a group of people who stand by each other every day in pursuit of a bigger picture, leaving their problems and ego at the door and trying to become better martial artists and people w/ each day. A special thank you goes to David Adiv, who for years tried to get me to open a BJJ Academy and was patient enough w/ me to let me do it when I thought I was ready. Another thank you goes to the many instructors and training partners who helped me develop the skills and knowledge I get to pass on to everyone today, most notably David Adiv, Renzo and Royler Gracie, John Danaher, Joe D’Arce and Jamie Cruz. I also would like to thank Master Lloyd Irvin, who may not know this, but whose advice at a BJJ tournament years ago changed my life and the fate of my Academy. I was working a full time job and trying to run my Academy and struggling mightily. Lloyd urged me to quit my job and focus on my academy. I told him “Lloyd, you don’t understand, I need that job to pay the bills at the Academy” he laughed and said “No, Sav,I  understand, YOU don’t understand, if you treat your business like a part time business, it will pay you like a part-time business, treat it like a full time business and it will pay you like one!”. It was the best advice anyone ever gave me and I quit my job that monday and haven’t looked back since so a big thank you to Lloyd from me and everyone at Savarese BJJ. Also a big thank you to my brother from another mother, Master Chim Justin Garcia, who has spent his countless time and energy on his own dime in an effort to help me become a better school owner and businessman. I owe alot of my Academy’s success to you. Also deserving mention is my lifelong friend Adrian Febre, who dragged me to my first BJJ class many years ago. Thank you to everyone for your help and I look forward to the rest of my BJJ journey with all of you!
Sincerely,
Professor Chris Savarese

Savarese Jiu Jitsu student is Grapplers Quest Champion

Savarese Jiu Jitsu student Spanish Mike Gonzalez is Grapplers Quest Champion. Nicknamed “Furniture” by his teammates because he is always in the Academy, Gonzalez is training less than 6 months and has already won 2 tournaments. Professor Chris Savarese, the owner and head instructor at Savarese Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mike’s instructor is very high on Gonzalez. “Mike is extremely talented. His future is limitless. The only person who can stop Mike is himself. He can go as far as he wants to go. We only had 1 competitor at Grapplers Quest yesterday but it was worth it! Congrats to Mike for bringing home the GOLD medal in his weight class by winning 5 matches, being un-scored upon in 4 of them!! In the 1 match he was in trouble of being submitted, he listened to Professor Savarese, who was coaching right in front of him and told him to stay calm and listen. Mike did exactly what his coach said, escaped the near submission and came back to win. Hard work pays off!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese jujutsu to create the art. Hence, the self defense art contains stand-up maneuvers, but it is most famous for its devastating ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning, so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent, is the key in BJJ.

Jeff Glover NJ Jiu-Jitsu seminar at Savarese BJJ

2x Pan American BJJ Champion Jeff Glover taught a jiu-jitsu seminar at Professor Chris Savarese’s NJ BJJ school last night. Savarese has coached and been Glover’s corner man for many of his matches on the East Coast over the years. Glover’s main instructor is Ricardo ‘Franjinha” Miller, owner of Paragon BJJ in Santa Barbara, CA. Savarese said “I would like to thank Jeff Glover for sharing his knowledge w/ my students last night. It was truly awesome seminar. His techniques and thoughts on strategy were awesome. I would highly recommend his seminars to anyone.”

About Jeff Glover

Jeff Glover is one of the top grapplers from the United States and a BJJ black belt under Ricardo “Franjinha†Miller. Glover, with his creative deep half and other guard styles, has one of the popular styles in Jiu Jitsu and is a huge fan favorite wherever he goes. Jeff also gained fame through his series of episodes named “Glover’s Travels†where he travelled the United States interviewing and training with some of the best coaches in the country. These DVDs were very successful in the BJJ community because of both it’s informative content and it’s humor.

Glover started competing as a teenager and achieved success quickly. Even though he competed mainly at featherweight and Lightweight, he always tested himself against larger competition in the absolute (open weight) division. Something that not many featherweights dare try. This display of confidence reaped it’s rewards as Glover won a bunch of absolute medals and titles over the years, unheard of at his weight. One of those titles won against Mike Fowler as a purplebelt at the prestigious Grapplers Quest, an event Glover is a 27-time champion, holding the the best record in the event’s history, having lost only 4 times over 8 years of active competition.

Glover received his black belt at just 23 yrs old from “Franjinhaâ€. This was after winning his second Pan American gold medal in the brown belt division.
