BJJ match of the day is a purplebelt match at the US open years ago between Nick Diaz vs Rual Castillo. Diaz has turned into one of the best MMA fighters in the world but has always recognized his BJJ roots and never wavers from his loyalty to his master, Caesar Gracie.

Aoki-Onishi

BJJ match of the day is a brownbelt match from the 2004 Japanese BJJ Championships between Shinya Aoki (blue gi) vs. Rodrigo Onishi. Aoki holds a blackbelt in BJJ under Yuki Nakai, as well as a blackbelt in Judo. He is one of the most prominent fighters out of the Paraestra Shooting gym. He has won several submission grappling titles including 2 All Japan Jiu-Jitsu championships, a Japan Open championship, a Budo Open championship, and an ADCC Japan championship. In MMA, he was the Shooto Champ and has fought in Pride, Dream and Strikeforce.

Leite-Grill

BJJ match of the day is a phenomenal match between 2007 World Champion and 2x No-Gi World Champ Lucas Leite vs Bill “The Grill” Cooper. Leite is a 2x World, 2x Pan Am and 2009 World NoGi Champion. Cooper has won more grappling titles than any other US competitor. Great match but my advice is to watch w/ the sound off….

Diaz-Weaver

BJJ match of the day is a 2004 US Open Absolute Purplebelt Final featuring Nick Diaz (Team Cesar Gracie) vs. Mike Weaver (Team Claudio Franca). Weaver has won the IGJJF Champion and medaled in the Pan Ams 3x. Diaz has many grappling titles and was a Strikeforce and IFC MMA Champion. Looking forward to his fight w/ BJ Penn sat night!!

Greggor

Match of the day is a semi-final matchup of a Grapplers Quest Pro Division between Greggor Gracie vs. an unnamed opponent. Greggor was a 2X World and Brazilian National Champion at purplebelt before focusing on MMA. He also medaled in the 2009 ADCC. Here he finished w/ a sick guillotine catch and finish.
