He has since stopped competing to run his Academy full time and focus on his students.

Chris brings a no nonsense approach to teaching and a family atmosphere to the gym. Students are treated with respect, honor and loyalty. Savarese BJJ Academy

Over 80% Of Fights End On Ground!

Professor Chris Savarese is a 2nd degree black belt and one of the best BJJ instructors in the nation. Complete Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training consists of both standing and ground fighting, but with an emphasis on ground fighting. It is the ground where it becomes easier to dominate and defeat an opponent that does not know BJJ. Decades of FBI and Law enforcement statistics, as well as thousands of mixed martial arts competitions prove that most fights end up on the ground (most stats show over 80%!) Therefore, ground fighting MUST be emphasized in self-defense training.

We also provide competition training for those who want to compete in Sport BJJ competitions. Our competition team has had great success over the last 8 years, winning many individuals titles and winning the team title at 7 different tournaments. First, our fundamental jiu jitsu course is designed to benefit learning the basics and beyond of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We put you through a 16 week course to ready you for our advanced classes. It will teach you the basics, from learning how to fall, to clinching, taking down and successfully setting up and applying a submission hold as well as various escapes. It will also provide knowledge of self defense in real situations as well as healthy weight loss in most cases.

Also, our no-gi submission grappling program is for grapplers of all levels. Our lessons are focused on takedowns, controling of the head, high percentage submissions, precision guard passing, and submission grappling points systems.

Finally, our advanced BJJ program  is designed to help the student grow and form a unique style of Jiu Jitsu through a variety of training experiences. This class is always lead by a Black Belt Instructor. As a result, he will teach more advanced moves and the class itself will move at a higher pace. Futhermore, the level of skill in training partners will be advanced and the attention to detail and timing will be magnified as well.

Professor Chris Savarese gives a No Excuses Speech to his students. Professor Savarese is a 2nd degree blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and owns and operates the Savarese Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy at 40 Park Ave in Lyndhurst NJ.

Savarese BJJ Academy

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that encourages taking an opponent to the ground, attaining positional dominance and using submissions to defeat opposition. If taken down, you are taught to limit damage and be offensive from the bottom position. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be used for much more than just sport jiu-jitsu or self-defense. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has many true to life applications from Mixed Martial Arts fighters looking to add an unstoppable ground game to their craft, to safety professionals such as bodyguards, police, corrections officers,  and military benefiting from the additional  ground aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Other competitive athletes from all sports can see improvement from training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well, improving balance, flexibility, stamina (muscular and cardiovascular) along with hand eye coordination. Wrestlers can become more well rounded in their grappling, traditional martial artists can use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to supplement their training giving them added self-defense to ground situations.

And lets not forget the rest of us out there, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a fun enjoyable way to get fit and stay in shape.

Men, women and teens alike can all become stronger, more flexible, healthier and a little bit safer than a person just doing that same old gym routine we all get tired of sooner or later. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, not just a sport, a way of life.

We have classes for men, women only, teens and children. Our flexible schedule can fit anyone’s needs w/ classes at 7am, noon and night. If you are interested in a free class, call 201 933-5134 or email [email protected]

“Misconceptions and facts of BJJ”

Misconceptions and facts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Please read this blog “Misconceptions and facts of BJJ”, written by my friend Tom DeBlass, a Ricardo Almeida blackbelt and owner of Ocean County BJJ Academy. http://oceancountybjj.com
There are many miscconceptions about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is in my opinion the  most practical martial art there is.  Furthermore it has been proven so in combat competition.  However most people automatically link in Mixed Martial Arts and UFC with Jiu-Jitsu.
1.  The fact of the matter is, most of the students in my Academy NEVER want to compete, and I like it that way.  I have doctors, lawyers, school teachers, law enforcement, gas station workers, and basically people from all different walks of life on the mats.
2.  Many people think you are forced to live train and spar.  This is wrong.  While rolling live is encouraged it is never mandatory.  Many students come and take the work out to stay in shape and be around positive people with similar goals.
3.  Did you know you burn an average of 1,000 calories in 1 one hour class?
4.  People think they can get the same workout in the gym as they can in a reputable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy.  People are WRONG.  As I do encourage people to use a gym it is not the same.  While there are many disciplined people who train at gyms to stay in great shape, it is still very different.  On the mats you build bonds that are almost impossible to break.  Its a brotherhood and sisterhood only those training can understand.
5.  Many people think it is to late to start training.  WRONG.  It is never to late and the moment you step on the mats you should be treated like you have been there for YEARS.  Everyone should welcome you with open arms and be eager to help you.  Also we have different classes for different levels my friends.
6.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET IN SHAPE TO TRAIN!!!  Training is what is going to get you in shape.  I have seen people lose over 100 lbs on the mats with hard work and dedication.
I hope all if you truly give this life changing martial art a chance, I promise it will be one of the best decisions you have ever made.  God Bless, Tom DeBlass
